WHAT IS YOUR GOAL?

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
This is a difficult question to answer as it depends on the availability of records, if the name is unique or common, if there was anyone else living nearby with the same name, if the family was transient or lived for several generations in the same parish, etc. Common names and people who lived in a variety of different areas throughout their lives are more difficult to trace. In addition, the more information we document on each individual person, the longer the duration of the project.
We advise our clients to commission an initial 3-4 hours of work. This should give us an indication of how complex our research task will be. We will contact you thereafter advising you on whether we are finding a significant amount of information and recommend further work or if very little information is available.
WHAT WILL YOU GET?

- A digital Ancestor or Descendant book which will contain all of our findings. Each book will contain a table of contents, complete source citations and name index.
- A digital Family Tree Chart which you can take to your local printer's office.
- A digital copy of all certificates and reports found in our research.
- A Gedcom file which you can use to upload your family tree to your own genealogy software or family history website.

WHAT OTHER SERVICES DO WE OFFER?
QUICK $20 RECORD LOOK-UP
We provide a 15 minute look-up service for anyone just wanting a copy of a specific indexed record. There is no charge to you if we are unable to find it within the allocated 15 minutes. If the record is not indexed and you would like us to keep searching, our usual hourly rate applies.

PALEOGRAPHY
Historical documents are often difficult to read. Some of the letters of the alphabet were written quite differently, words were spelled differently, and the handwriting style was often very fluid. It was common for wills, parish records and legal documents to contain some Latin words and phrases. In addition, many historical documents have become damaged and faded.
With decades of experience reading and transcribing handwritten wills and other historical documents, Legend Family History can create a transcription of the text for you.
FAMILIES SEPARATED BY ADOPTION OR FINDING A LONG-LOST RELATIVE
Although Legend Family History does not have access to your adoption records, if you have your original birth certificate or some details provided by an adoption agency, we may be able to trace your birth parents or child and locate living members of your family.
Likewise, should you wish to locate a family member with whom you have lost touch, if you can provide some basic information, we may be able to find them for you.
DIGITISING YOUR OWN RECORDS
From your own records we can create:
- A digital Ancestor or Descendant book. Each book will contain a table of contents and name index.
- A digital Family Tree Chart which you can take to your local printer's office.
- A Gedcom file which you can use to upload your family tree to your own genealogy software or family history website.
We can continue your research to further generations or additional information if you wish.
OUR FEES
Usual Fees
- Legend Family History offers a FREE no-obligation initial assessment.
- We require a deposit of $200, with the exception of Record Look-Ups or if it has been agreed that the requested work will be less than 2 hours.
- The first 2 hours are charged at $100 per hour, subsequent hours are charged at $75 per hour.
- Record Look-Ups are charged at $20 each (15 minutes allocated per record).
- Payments may be made by Bank transfer using BSB and Account Number, unless otherwise agreed.
Additional charges
- We will always check our available resources first for all information, however, occasionally we may need to order a certificate from a third-party provider. For any certificates that need to be purchased, we will of course seek your approval, and advise you of the additional charge.
DISCLAIMER
We at Legend Family History are fully aware that we are being trusted with your personal information and will at all times abide by the Privacy Policy. Confidentiality and Discretion is assured.
Clients should be aware that despite our best endevours, there are situations where information is not available (i.e. has been destroyed, faded, damaged, lost, not available due to privacy or copywrite reasons, has never been published or was never provided). Time spent on negative findings and unsuccessful searches will be charged. In the event that our research is unsuccessful, you will be advised and given the option to discontinue further research at that point.
Prior to the commencement of your genealogy project, it would be extremely helpful if you can provide us with any information you have in your possession, including copies of records and certificates. This will prevent us wasting time researching information that you already know and give us a great starting point. We can provide you with forms to fill in which may help you gather your information.
